On November 12 the activity of Public-consultative council of President’s Administration was put on hold by Vladimir Makei, the head of the council and the head president’s administrator. It happened on the threshold of highly expected session of the council during which questions of introduction of alterations in the legislation must have been discussed.
According to the report of BELTA, Vladimir Makei made this announce taking into account speeches of some opposition personalities some of which are members of the Public-consultative council and claim that the council is a “fake” and “declarative structure”.
“Public-consultative council was created to for political environment but for real work. The authorities consciously gave way to the numerous wishes of some well-known public persons because they believe that every opinion must be heard and every idea which can be useful for the country must be studied. Real mechanism of a dialogue of people who hold different views was created with the Public-consultative council. But some opposition doers didn’t like easy and constructive developments. Accusations of PCC happened before but on the threshold of another session on the topic of election legislation became especially loud. Some mass media started talking about “uselessness” and “needlessness” of the Council grounding this with the fact that all the questions connected with reforming of election legislation are already decided at the president’s meeting…
It’s clear that the goal of tendentious publications was not the essence of the question (it seems that the authors just don’t care about it) but just to make sweeping discredit of PCC and the whole idea of the dialogue between the authorities and political doers of different political views”, - announced Vladimir Makei.
We’ve already got used to mass media and journalists being guilty for everything: flu epidemic, ARVI and lack of drugs. But now the role of journalists becomes global in a “free” Belarusian society. It’s hard to say what the demarche of Makei connected with is. It’s also hard to believe that it is connected only with the critics of Public-consultative council and its activity (Who mentioned it? Who remember when was the last session of the council and what was discussed there?). Perhaps, that’s how Mr. Makei admits that the question of alterations of election legislation no more needs to be discussed by independent experts because everything is decided with the approval of the main Belarusian official, no matter how the head of the president’s administration denies it. Stanislav Bogdankievich a member of PCC spoke about it at the meeting with journalists on Friday, the day he was supposed to speak at the session of the council with the report about alterations and additions of election legislation.
As for the discrimination of PCC, vise versa, almost all mass media including independent ones wrote that hopes of public society to be heard were put on PCC. But now the head of the council himself gave up for lost with these hopes. Though Mr. Makei announced only about putting on hold the activity of the Council, it’s hard to believe that it will be revived. And if it is revived, nobody will believe in it and treat seriously no longer, because it’s obvious again how a situation depends on the opinion of one high official in our country. It’s a “squiggle” again…
